
Louis J. Muglia, MD, PhD
President and CEO
Dr. Muglia is the President and CEO of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. His tenure began in January 2020.
Prior to joining the Fund, Dr. Muglia was the Vice-Chair for Research, A. Graeme Mitchell Chair of the Division of Human Genetics, Co-Director of the Perinatal Institute and Director of the Center for Prevention of Preterm Birth at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Ken Browndorf
Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Assists the VP of Finance in managing the investment portfolio and treasury responsibilities; assists the program staff in non-profit compliance issues and grant disbursement planning; manages the accounting function including coordinating an annual external audit, budgeting, cash flow analysis, and taxes

Alfred Mays
Oversees the Science Education and Diversity in Science Programs: Student STEM Enrichment Program, Career Awards for STEM Teachers, Promoting Innovation in Science and Mathematics, and Postdoctoral Diversity Enrichment Program

Victoria McGovern, PhD
Oversees Infectious Disease and Population Sciences programs: Investigators in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease, and the Climate Change programs

Scott Schoedler
Mr. Schoedler advises on all financial aspects of the Fund’s operation. This includes oversight of the Fund’s investment program, as well as accounting, insurance, and benefits administration.
Mr. Schoedler joined BWF in 1994 from the Rockefeller Foundation in New York, where he was Senior Asset Manager, Marketable Securities for the Foundation’s $2.2 billion endowment. His prior financial experiences include stints at Unisys Corporation and NCR Corporation. He has a B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. from Duke University.

Russ Campbell
Leads BWF’s strategic communications and science media programs—advancing understanding and sharing stories that connect science and society. He also serves as the Board of Directors’ secretary.

Jennifer Caraballo
Provides support to the VP of Finance, including assisting with non-profit compliance matters and planning for grant disbursements; collaborates with program staff to ensure adherence to compliance regulations; oversees the staff accountant and manages all accounting functions, including coordinating the annual external audit.; responsible for budgeting, cash flow analysis, and tax-related activities.

Sammy Caraballo
Responsible for overseeing all hardware and software development for the Fund’s web site, as well as general hardware and software setup, backup, and maintenance, and all audio-visual equipment in the meeting rooms.

Tammy Collins, PhD
Oversees the Interfaces in Science and Regulatory Science programs: Career Awards at the Scientific Interface, and Innovation in Regulatory Science Awards

Paige Cooper Byas, PhD
Manages the biomedical and reproductive science portfolio: Career Awards for Medical Scientists and NextGen Pregnancy Initiative

Brent Epps
Responsible for managing maintenance, repair, grounds, and technical tasks related to the facilities and grounds including planning, organizing, and managing BWFs capital improvement program.

Barbara Evans
Provides administrative support to the Funds’ President, Vice President, and Meeting Professional. She assists with meetings, staff travel, and other administrative duties.

Betsy Stewart
Responsible for overseeing operations, administrative, and financial functions, including planning and managing the Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s capital improvement program. As HR Administrator, manages the attendance program and updates organizational policies across all departments.
